How did you get to where you are today?
I started doing YouTube at 17 when there was no industry, no YouTube Space LA... so it was just simply a passion project. I continued with it for 4 years all throughout college, while simultaneously juggling 6-7 unit courses in hopes of graduating early along with a full-time job. I never thought I would be able to make a substantial living from YouTube, until my senior year of college, when I signed a year-long deal with Macy's that changed my life. Needless to say, it was a huge wake-up call and it made the decision very apparent that I should pursue what I love for a living. Never in a million years did I think I would be able to be my own boss straight out of college.
What was your toughest obstacle and how did you overcome it?
My toughest obstacle is something I deal with everyday- the constant guilt and concern of what it would have been if I chose a more conventional path. When I first graduated, I would check job listings every single day, while editing my resume. I still have not yet submitted any applications, but I constantly struggle with that mentally daily.
What’s the key to staying focused & motivated?
Always start with the end goal in mind. Making it on YouTube has never been and will never be my complete end goal, so I strive every single day to go beyond the platform and vlogging.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
If you love it, the money will eventually follow.
How do we get more women leaders?
By preaching authenticity.
